One of the most common questions we receive is, “What services can I [or my family member] get through home health?”  It’s reasonable to wonder what services you or a family member are entitled to after admission to home health!  For a home health provider to be certified by Medicare, they must provide a specific set of services. Unfortunately, many home health agencies will only offer these services to their patients.  However, some agencies like Aspire Home Health and Hospice offer their patients these and many more benefits.  This blog will detail the major home health services we provide our patients at Aspire Home Health and Hospice.

Palliative Care

Palliative care is an umbrella term used to describe many different services.  But, each of these services has the same goal:  to improve a patient’s quality of life and mitigate suffering as much as possible.  These services usually aim to improve a patient’s life physically, mentally, and emotionally.  But, sometimes, patients will need palliative care to improve their lives socially or spiritually.  It all depends on a patient’s individual needs.

Skilled Nursing Care

The primary purpose of home health is to help a patient heal from an injury, illness, or surgery.  The most direct way to do this is through skilled nursing.  So, our nurses are certified and trained in patient care in many forms.

Physical Therapy

While recovering from surgery or injury, many patients need help recovering or maintaining full mobility.  Physical therapy is a fantastic solution to this need.  Physical therapists can help patients maintain or regain control of their bodies.  Because each patient’s needs will be different, physical therapists will carefully plan the care they’ll administer based on their specific needs.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is a fantastic service that helps patients regain or maintain independence and control of their bodies.  In occupational therapy, patients will participate in activities chosen by a therapist with specific goals in mind.  These activities can improve a patient’s balance, dexterity, memory, safety, personal care, or relaxation.  For example, many patients participate in sewing, origami, tossing a ball, writing, washing, and cooking.

Social Work

Many patients need some extra support while on our services, which is where social work comes in.  Social workers can provide access to various support systems, including therapy, support groups, and counseling.

Pain Management

Pain is something we expect to be part of the healing process from injury, illness, or surgery.  However, that doesn’t make pain pleasant.  We want our patients to have as enjoyable an experience as possible!  So, we do everything we can to help our patients feel as little pain as possible.  Sometimes, this includes medication, but it’s common for patients to prefer more holistic approaches to pain relief like physical therapy or massage therapy.  So, we’ll cultivate a patient’s pain management to their preferences and lifestyle with their primary care physician.

Joint Replacement Therapy

Many of our patients are recovering from joint replacement surgeries.  As such, we specialize in this kind of recovery care!  We do everything we can to help our joint replacement patients make a full recovery through the services listed above!

This list is by no means comprehensive.  Each patient has different needs, and we are committed to doing everything we can to meet each individual’s personalized care goals.  So, if you would like more information on what our home health services can do for you or a loved one, give us a call today!
