One of the best ways to pass time productively is through listening to podcasts.  Podcasts come in all shapes and sizes, so there’s something for everyone in the podcast world.  Here are a few of our favorites that seniors will love!

 

  1.  Ask Me Another

Ask Me Another is a trivia podcast put on by NPR.  People who like games, puzzles, music, and trivia will absolutely love this podcast.  Ask Me Another is a top-notch trivia night right in the comfort of the listener’s own home!  Not only does this podcast teach people new things, but they also make sure listeners have lots of fun doing it.

 

  1.  Stuff You Missed in History Class

For a history buff, Stuff You Missed in History Class is the perfect podcast.  Instead of focusing on things that are probably considered common knowledge, this podcast does a great job diving into things that history classes probably missed.  Every episode is packed with interesting information (and believe me, there are a LOT of episodes).

 

  1.  Science Friday

Science Friday is a podcast that describes itself as, “Brain fun for curious people.”  This podcast covers topics ranging from undersea volcanoes to the black hole at the center of our galaxy.  No matter what field of science you’re interested in, Science Friday is sure to pique a curious mind’s interest.

 

  1.  Conspiracy Theories

The stories accompanying conspiracy theories are endlessly entertaining.  This podcast is hosted by two very smart hosts who dive deep into conspiracy theories.  This podcast is all about where the theories came from and why people believe them.  At the end of each episode, the hosts rate the conspiracy theory on how plausible they are.

 

  1.  This is American Life

What could be more interesting than learning about culture and American society?  This is American Life offers a small snippet of everyday life in the United States which will make listeners laugh, cry, and gain new and unique perspectives.

 

  1.  Stuff You Should Know

This podcast really has it all.  They give absolutely incredible information on topics including champagne, mermaids, chili peppers, chaos theory, El Niño, Rosa Parks, and much, MUCH more.  No matter what your curiosity is, you’ll find something you like in this podcast.

 

  1.  Serial

True Crime podcasts are astonishingly popular.  The unique pull of this one is that it lays out all of the facts of the case over the course of a season, but then asks the listener to act as the jury.  Being presented a case and building opinions and perspectives is a fun thought experiment and a great learning experience.
