Being at home all the time can be monotonous.  We are very aware of this as a home health agency.  So, to make being at home more fun, I decided to compile a list of home-based activities you can do with your senior family members.  We’ll go over 5 activities for seniors to do at home in this blog!  And, to make it even better, these activities are also great for caregivers!

Start a book club

With resources like Zoom readily available to have conference calls, it’s reasonable to start hosting a virtual book club right from your house. For example, you could easily set up a conference call with your senior family member’s friends once a week.  They can discuss a book they choose to read throughout the week.  Book Club meetings will provide a week’s entertainment and a great social outlet!

Recreate a Bob Ross Painting

I’m terrible at painting, but I still have a lot of fun trying!  My favorite way to paint is to paint along with Bob Ross’s old show.  YouTube has hundreds of episodes readily available.  Amazon also sells all of the materials you’d need to follow along with the video and make your own Bob Ross paintings!  Here’s a playlist of over 400 Bob Ross – The Joy of Painting episodes on YouTube so you can choose your favorite!

Spa Day

Self-care and hygiene are essential for everyone!  When I’m getting bored with my daily routine, I like to take the evening, exfoliate, have a foot bath, apply some moisturizer, and relax.  It’s very calming, and I always feel great afterward.  I think this would be great to do with our senior family members!  It would be a unique, relaxing activity, making them feel healthy and fabulous!

Baking

Baking is one of my very favorite pastimes.  It’s an easy but rewarding task that helps to bring people together.  As long as mobility isn’t too limited and kitchen safety practices are adhered to, baking is fun to do with seniors.  We posted a blog a while ago about our favorite dessert recipes!  Check it out here.

NBC & CBS

Play Games

Games never fail to pass the time effectively.  My favorite games to play with my senior family members are Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Chess, and jigsaw puzzles.  Along with having an excellent social aspect, games are a great way to keep the mind active and fun.

Hopefully, this list has given you some ideas for fun activities for seniors at home!  We’d love to hear your thoughts and favorite activities, too!  Let us know in the comments!
