I can’t believe it’s almost 2022! A new year represents an opportunity to make changes and set new goals for many people. But, how many times do we see those goals fall apart? As common as New Year’s Resolutions are, it’s rare for people to follow through on them longer than a week. So, how do we make sure we follow through on our goals? I’ll give you a few tips on increasing your likelihood of following through on your goals in this blog!
Set Goals and Write them Down
Writing your goals down is one of the best ways to accomplish them. Studies show that simply writing down your goal every day can increase your likelihood of achieving them by up to 43%. So, if you want to increase your chances of accomplishing your goals significantly, take a moment to write them down every day.
Set SMART Goals
People have been using SMART goals for a long time now. There’s a good reason they’re so popular; they work! SMART stands for specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based. So, if you want to achieve your goals, make sure they’re SMART. Sure, we’d all like to start eating healthier and exercising more often. But, unfortunately, those aspirations on their own aren’t going to get us anywhere. Here are some examples of goals that are not SMART compared to their SMART counterparts:
Not SMART:
- Exercise more
- Eat healthier
- Make more money
SMART:
- Exercise for 30 minutes a day, three times per week for three months. Go up to 30 minutes four times per week for three months. Advance to 30 minutes five times per week for six months.
- Consume 2 cups of fruit and 3 cups of vegetables each day. Plan meals every Sunday to prepare how I will reach this goal every week for one year.
- Save an additional 5-10% of my net income every month for one year.
As you can see, the SMART goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based. Crafting your aspirations in this way increases your chances of attaining them.
We want to wish everybody a happy new year! We hope your year is safe, healthy, and full of accomplished goals!
