A wreath is a fantastic way to spruce up your home in an effortless way!  A DIY autumn wreath is not only a great decoration, but it’ll be a lot of fun to make, and it makes the decoration more special.  So, without further ado, here are the steps for making your new favorite DIY autumn wreath!

Materials:

  • Foam wreath, 16 inches (You can find these at any craft store like Michael’s or Joanne’s, or you can purchase one from Amazon)
  • Faux Maple Leaves (Again, you can find these at any craft store or from Amazon)
  • 1 Medium-sized Piece of Cardboard
  • Scissors, one standard and one with a decorative edge if desired
  • Pencil
  • Photocopies of book pages (no need to harm actual books, make a photocopy of the pages instead)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Burlap ribbon
  • Clear acrylic spray paint (You can find this at most craft stores as well as Wal-Mart)

Step 1:

Draw a 3-inch wide maple-leaf shape on the cardboard. Then, cut it out to create a stencil you’ll use for the book pages.

Step 2:

Using the stencil, trace the shape over the photocopied book pages.  Then, use your scissors to cut out along the trace.  Consider using scissors with a decorative edge to achieve a fun “torn paper” effect.  Repeat about 100 times.

Step 3:

Using the hot glue gun, attach the leaf-shaped book pages to the faux maple leaves.  Allow them to dry.

Step 4:

Attach the leaves with book pages on them to the foam wreath.  Be sure to layer and overlap the leaves as you go to give it a flowing aesthetic.  If you don’t have enough leaves to cover the entire foam wreath, repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have enough.

Step 5:

After the wreath has dried and the foam is all covered, you’ll want to spray it with clear acrylic spray paint.  This step will waterproof the pages to make sure the rain doesn’t ruin them. Remember, don’t apply too much, but make sure you spray each visible page.

Step 6:

After the spray paint has dried, use your burlap ribbon to hang your new, beautiful wreath from your door!

I hope you enjoy making this wreath!  I feel it has a unique aesthetic to it that will make it stand out in your neighborhood.  Let me know what you think of this wreath in the comments!
